Make a Great First Impression – Interior Decorating
You never get a second chance to make a first impression. That is why you always want to put your best foot forward, whether it’s a small dinner party, a job interview, or a first date. And it shouldn’t only extend to your image; the same can be said for your house.
From the front door to the foyer:
- Begin with a splash of color: A bold color can be unexpected, fun, and delightful to your guests as they enter your house. You can go bold with reds, blues, or even a bright sunny yellow (just make sure it coordinates with the overall feel.
- Bring in nature: Fresh flowers are always welcome and probably preferred by some. But fake flowers might be more feasible for day to day use. And have you seen some of the fake flowers lately? Some look like they should belong in the garden!
- Add texture and pattern: This part can be tricky because many people tend to overdo it. Use pattern in small doses. A small rug, painting, or upholstered chair is a great place to incorporate color and pattern. Small touches of paisley curtains and a striped rug can make a foyer cozy and welcoming rather than mis-matched and tacky.
- Dress up the foyer: Bring in a lamp; lamp light is softer than over head lighting and can bring warmth to the room. Rugs can help to define space. Wall-mounted shelves can stand in as a space-saving table. A narrow coat rack can be a simple storage solution. Simple seating may be needed for putting on shoes as you leave the house.
